"Phillip's expertise and leadership help was paramount for us. ETP rules and regulations can get very technical if you have something special as we do at Dameron Hospital: 24/7 hours, diverse learning groups, and complex Didactic and Clinical Preceptor training requirements. We have ETP and Herrera & Company to thank for the projects overall success."

ARRA Funding: $400,000

ETP was allocated $3 million from the Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA) as a result of the substantial augmentation to the Governor’s 15 Percent WIA Discretionary Funds that occurred through 2009's ARRA augmentation to the state’s WIA formula funding. These monies are proposed for a program that would target incumbent nurse training in the private, non-profit healthcare sector, with an emphasis on rural hospitals in high unemployment areas of the state.

The purpose of this funding is to provide job skills re-training to RNs and LVNs that otherwise would not be eligible for ETP training funds under the standard program. Funds provide nurses with upgrade and specialty training and may additionally be used to assist hospitals in training newly hired nurses and well as new nurse graduates. Training covers a wide range of technical and advanced nursing specialties involving patient assessment and care. The proposed training will address specific skill gaps to ensure that nurses are competent in advanced medical care. Nurses may be assigned to a specific hospital unit such as the Medical/Surgical Unit or Intensive Care/Critical Care Unit where each nurse will complete Clinical Preceptor Skills training under an assigned “preceptor”.
